Did you know that your employees can claim tax back on your branded workwear?
Employees can claim tax back on branded workwear to cover the cost of washing, repairing or replacing your protective clothing that you own and use for work. (You cannot claim tax back on the cost of purchasing your branded workwear.)
You can either claim the actual amount you have spent on embroidered safety workwear (but you will need to keep receipts) or an agreed fixed amount (a flat rate expense).
The standard flat-price allowance for having branded workwear is £60, however you can only claim these expenses back if you paid tax for each year you are claiming for.
How much can your employees claim?
If you are a basic-rate tax payer, you’ll get £12 back per year, as that is 20% of £60. Some professions who’s uniform endures more wear and tear, such as ambulance staff, are entitled to a higher allowance for their uniform, meaning they could get back £37 for each year.
Other factors you can claim for include working from home, purchasing work tools, vehicle use for work, professional fees and subscriptions, travel and overnight expenses, and other equipment such as PPE. (Please note that you cannot claim tax relief for PPE – your employer should either reimburse you for your PPE or give you your PPE free of charge). To read more, click here.
